How a Centrifugal Pump Works High-pressure centrifugal pumps move fluid by using centrifugal force to generate the velocity of the liquid. Fluid enters the pump through the suction nozzle, and into the eye of the impeller. The impeller vanes hold the fluid and revolve it, both radially and tangentially until it leaves the pump on the discharge end of things.
